Necrotic Ring Spot
Kentucky Bluegrass, Fescue's, and Bentgrass can be affected by Necrotic Ring Spot. This disease begins as light green patches scattered throughout the lawn, though as the disease matures, tan lesions grow to cover the blade of grass causing further discoloration and even die-back. As time passes, the doughnut-shaped area extends in size and your turf may experience several years (as this disease is a perennial) of this pattern until the disease disappears. As expansion occurs, the inner ring will recover (appears as a hollowed circle of tan/straw colored turf). Unlike many other turf diseases, Necrotic Ring Spot does not spread through the leaf of the plant. Allow your clippings to discharge from the mower so it may decompose on the lawn for added nutrients.
