Turf Disease

Powder Mildew on grassPowdery Mildew
Powdery mildew appears in shaded areas that have little to no air circulation. A white, fine powder forms on the blade of the grass sometimes covering the whole blade. Though Kentucky Bluegrass is susceptible, this disease will not kill out lawns.

By adding resistant turf-types (fescue's) to the lawn, homeowners can experience less of this disease. Promoting air circulation if possible will also improve the lawns ability to resist powdery mildew.

Disease Development Favored by:

  • Cool weather
  • Poor air circulation
  • High humidity
  • Shade

Corrective Measures:

  • Aerate for better air circulation
  • Prune trees for more light
  • Overseed the lawn with a resistant blend
