Tree and Shrub Iron Boosters: Chlorosis

Chlorosis is a deficiency of iron in trees and shrubs. Leaves will exhibit yellowing of the leaf while the veins remain green. Prolonged iron deficiency may result in defoliation, dieback of branches, or in extreme cases death of the plant itself. Alkaline soil, heavy clay soil, compact soil or damage to the root system may contribute to chlorosis.

Disease Development Favored by:

  • Alkaline soil
  • Heavy clay soil
  • Compact Soil
  • Damage to root system

Corrective Measures:

  • Introduce iron into the soil and lower the PH level of the soil
  • Apply a foliar spray to the leaf of the tree containing iron
  • Iron trunk injection
